Please join us starting at 5:00 PM at Mount Saint Joseph University for our February Meeting. The featured speaker is Andrea M. Carrao, PhD Candidate in Pharmaceutical Sciences – Biomembranes at the James L. Winkle College of Pharmacy | University of Cincinnati. She will talk about her work at Kao involving environmental regulatory side of sunscreens -- "UV filters in the Environment: Why There Are No Easy Answers".
Advance registration is required by Monday, February 13. Students will register for the event as usual (pre-payment using a debit or credit card is required). The first 10 students who register and attend the event will see receive reimbursement.

Abstract/Bio:
The active ingredients in sunscreens known as UV filters have come under recent scrutiny for their impacts on the aquatic environment, specifically sensitive coral communities. This talk will discuss the many unique chemistry challenges that factor into sunscreen formulations and the potential environmental impacts of UV filters.
Andrea Carrao works as a ESG group Leader at Kao USA and is a part-time doctoral student at the University of Cincinnati, James L. Winkle College of Pharmacy studying the UV filter environmental exposure from dermally applied sunscreen products.
